Don’t watch the Star Wars films.
Instead, just read the titles – they tell you what happens.
(Brief background – goodies are Jedi, and baddies are Sith/the Empire)
The titles are:
- The Phantom Menace
- Attack of the Clones
- Revenge of the Sith
- A New Hope
- The Empire Strikes Back
- Return of the Jedi
- The Force Awakens
- The Last Jedi
- The Rise of Skywalker
Which means, without watching the films, you know this is what happens:
- A baddie appears
- There’s a fight
- The baddies win
- The goodies have a new chance
- The baddies win again
- Now the goodies win
- Here we go again
- No we don’t
- Yes we do!
In fact, Star Wars is the perfect example of “the rule of titles”…
Your titles should tell the story
In other words, when you read just them, you understand the flow of your communication.
You can use this rule with presentations, documents, anything with titles. Which means…
Action Point
… Next time your comms include titles, write all the titles first – before any content. Once you get the flow right, it’s easy and quick to build the content around that.
