To deliver brilliant presentations, there are only four things to master:
- Interesting content
- Impactful delivery
- Impressive visuals
- Appropriate confidence
Master all four, and your presentation will be brilliant.
But if any one is missing, it could’ve been better.
And if all four are missing, it could not have been worse.
How do your presentations stack up, for these four?
- Content – is it interesting? Do you ensure your messaging engages? That it’s enjoyable? That it’s relevant? Is it always as short as possible?
- Does your delivery have enough impact? Do you deliver with passion? Do you ask good questions, so it’s interactive? Do you use your body and voice, to impress and influence the room?
- Are your visuals impressive? Do your slides enhance your message, or dilute/contradict it? Are they like a TV weather forecast’s map that clarifies your message; or are they wordy Speaker Prompts, that people watch you read to them? And if your message doesn’t need slides – do you always remember to not have them?
- Are your confidence levels appropriate? Too much confidence, and you can come across as aloof – even arrogant. But too little, and your audience can doubt your credibility
I love that there are only four things to master. After all, ‘four’ is a small number.
But I do NOT enjoy the fact that we have to master all four.
So, what one improvement could you make to one of these four, to be a better presenter?
Action Point
Improve just one of these four, and you’re already a better presenter.
And if you want to improve twice as much, improve at least two of them!
It is as simple and as difficult as that.
