This week’s Tip is short, important and obvious.
Of all the meetings you attend:
- Identify the one that’s worst – the one where nothing happens during it; nothing happens as a result of it; most people don’t contribute; it’s long, boring and dull
- Cancel it
You lose nothing by cancelling it. After all, nothing happens during or after it! And you’ve now given all attendees an hour of their lives back.
Of course, if you don’t feel you can cancel it (even though you probably can!) … do something to make it shorter:
- Shorter duration
- Hold them less often
- Have fewer agenda items
- Have fewer attendees
- Hold it virtually, not in-person
- Etc
But do something.
Or you’ll all attend this tedious, pointless meeting every week for the rest of your lives…
Action Point
You were probably expecting to spend two minutes reading this week’s Tip.
But, with it being so short, it probably only took you one minute. So, in the minute you’ve just saved:
- Review your diary
- Find your worst meeting
- Cancel it, or…
- … shorten something about it
