Most communications are too long:
- 60-minute meetings that could have taken 30
- 20-slide presentations that could have been 10 (or none!)
- War and Peace emails that could have been… well anything would have been better
And since most comms are too long – this means your comms might well be too long.
So, shorten them. A lot.
I always set my customers the target of halving their communications – by halving one/more of:
- Duration
- Frequency
- Quantity
- Content
- Agenda items
- Number of pages/slides
- Number of attendees
And even if someone ‘fails’ and ‘only’ reduces their communications by 20%…
… well, they have just removed the worst 20% of all their communications. Twenty per cent!
How much time could you save, if you halved your communications? Or reduced them by ‘only’ 20%?
Action Point
An obvious one this week – halve your communications. Reduce/remove everything you can. This will save you days of time.
