Happy New Year!
I trust you had a wonderful break with family and friends, and are now getting back into the swing of things.
But not the same swing of things as last year. And here’s why…
Do you remember how – in your final few days before Christmas – people’s communications were different?
Maybe you missed some of your regular Update Meetings. Or you didn’t send some of your usual emails. Or a few team presentations got cancelled.
And did these differences cause massive problems for you?
Thought not.
So ask yourself this:
What problems would happen if we permanently stopped these comms?
And if stopping them wouldn’t cause any problems…
STOP DOING THEM!
So easy to say. But not easy to do.
Why?
Because we communicate based on habit, not logic. So, this week’s comms tend to be similar to last week’s – even if some aren’t needed.
Well, now’s the ideal time to change.
As in, right now.
After all, if you don’t do it now, you’ll quickly get back into your old habits. And then there’s no changing them…
Action Point
Identify the communications you should stop/reduce.
And then stop/reduce them right now.
Trust me on this: if you don’t do it now, you won’t do it.
And one final quick tip: if you want to give your customers, your team or yourself the New Year’s Gift of being better at communicating (and who wouldn’t?), here’s how to help yourself break even more habits.
